Key influencing conditions of the social environment were the remoteness of communities, keeping up with demand, families' knowledge, skills and roles and organisational service approaches and capacities. Engaging and relating Murri way occurred through four strategies: connecting through practical support, creating a culturally safe practice, becoming informed and informing others, and linking at the clinic. These strategies resulted in women and families taking responsibility for health through making healthy choices, becoming empowered health consumers and advocating for community changes. Conclusions: The theoretical model was applied to improve and revise Baby Basket program implementation, including increased recognition of the importance of empowering families by extending the home visiting approach up to the child's third birthday. Engaging and relating Murri way was strengthened by formal recognition and training of Indigenous health workers as program leaders. This theoretical model of program implementation was therefore useful for guiding program improvements, and could be applicable to other Indigenous maternal and child health programs.]]> Wed 11 Apr 2018 14:48:10 AEST ]]> Indigenous Australians are under-represented in longitudinal ageing studies https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:12246 Wed 11 Apr 2018 09:53:10 AEST ]]> Dietary glycemic index and glycemic load among Indigenous and non-Indigenous children aged 10-12 years https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:24191 Wed 11 Apr 2018 09:26:27 AEST ]]> Tobacco, alcohol and cannabis use during pregnancy: clustering of risks https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:17462 Wed 11 Apr 2018 09:18:36 AEST ]]> Improving health providers’ management of smoking in Australian Indigenous pregnant women https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35033 Wed 07 Apr 2021 10:34:42 AEST ]]> Evaluation of an mHealth Intervention (Growin' Up Healthy Jarjums) Designed With and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mothers: Engagement and Acceptability Study. https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:51814 Tue 19 Sep 2023 15:20:09 AEST ]]> Development of the national consensus statement on ear health and hearing check recommendations for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged under 6 years attending primary care: systematic scoping review and e-Delphi https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:55153 Tue 16 Apr 2024 15:26:46 AEST ]]> Perspectives about smoking cessation during pregnancy and beyond of Aboriginal women in Australia: A qualitative analysis using the COM-B model https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:49884 Tue 13 Jun 2023 12:05:50 AEST ]]> Development of a Maternal and Child mHealth Intervention With Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mothers: Co-design Approach https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:51844 Thu 21 Sep 2023 09:27:15 AEST ]]> Aboriginal children, history and health: why growth faltering is a moral problem https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:31229 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:43:19 AEDT ]]> Methodology for adding glycemic index values to 24-hour recalls https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:12483 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:15:26 AEDT ]]> Mind The Gap, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cardiovascular Health: A Narrative Review https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:53262 Mon 20 Nov 2023 12:14:02 AEDT ]]> Evaluation of Yantiin Kalabara – 5 Ways to a Healthier You: A primary school-based education program targeting healthy living choices through interactive workshops https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:54867 Mon 18 Mar 2024 14:18:15 AEDT ]]> ‘Sometimes they’re gammin, playing tricks, but sometimes it’s ears.’ The perspectives of urban parents and carers of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children on their journey to diagnosis of persistent ear health and hearing problems https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:48606 Fri 31 Mar 2023 08:37:25 AEDT ]]> Barriers and facilitators to smoking cessation within pregnant Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women: an integrative review https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:42589 Fri 26 Aug 2022 10:46:16 AEST ]]> The pattern of opioid management by Australian general practice trainees https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:27290 Fri 25 Sep 2020 12:37:05 AEST ]]> Alcohol management plans in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous) Australian communities in Queensland: community residents have experienced favourable impacts but also suffered unfavourable ones https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:30593 Fri 22 Apr 2022 10:33:32 AEST ]]>
